Coloured PPF vs Car Wrap: What's the Difference?
Coloured PPF and vinyl car wraps can both change the colour of your car. How they differ in protection, thickness, finish and care.
If you want to change your car's colour without repainting, there are two main options: a vinyl wrap or coloured paint protection film. They can look similar on the road, but they are built for different jobs.
Vinyl wraps: built for colour
A vinyl wrap is a thin coloured film designed mainly to change the look of a car. Wraps come in a huge range of colours and effects and are popular for styling and branding. Because they are thin, they offer limited protection against stone chips and scratches.
Coloured PPF: colour plus protection
Coloured PPF combines the colour change of a wrap with the thicker, protective body of paint protection film. The EAGLE PPF Spectra Series is a 190-micron coloured PPF supplied in 250 sq ft rolls, in gloss and matte colours such as Black Gloss, Black Matte, Piano White and Nardo Grey.
Key differences
- Protection: coloured PPF is made to protect the paint; wraps are made mainly for looks - Thickness: PPF is typically much thicker than wrap film - Surface: PPF usually has a protective topcoat; most wraps do not - Warranty: EAGLE PPF Spectra carries a 5-year warranty, subject to the official terms
Which should you choose?
Choose a vinyl wrap if you want a short-term style change or an unusual effect. Choose coloured PPF if you want a new colour and want to protect the factory paint underneath for years.
Removal
Both are designed to be removed by a professional. Ask your installer about removal before you choose, especially on older or repainted panels.
