Gloss vs Matte PPF: Which Finish Suits Your Car?
Gloss PPF or matte PPF? How each finish looks, how they behave day to day and how to choose the right paint protection film finish for your car.
Clear paint protection film comes in two main finishes: gloss and matte. Both protect the paint. The difference is how your car looks afterwards.
Gloss PPF
Gloss PPF is designed to be invisible. It keeps the paint's colour, depth and reflections, and on many cars it adds a richer shine. If you love your car's factory look and simply want to keep it, gloss is the natural choice.
EAGLE PPF offers high-gloss film in the Standard Series and in the HyperShield Series, which adds Crystal Gloss Technology for high clarity.
Matte PPF
Clear matte PPF gives gloss paint a smooth satin finish. It changes the character of the car, softening reflections and highlighting body lines. On cars that already have matte paint, matte PPF protects the finish without making it shiny.
EAGLE PPF Clear Matte is part of the Standard Series, with the same 190-micron film and 5-year warranty as the high-gloss version.
How they compare
- Look: gloss keeps the factory shine; matte creates a satin look - Paint colour: both are clear and let the original colour show - Swirl marks: matte surfaces hide light swirls well; gloss shows reflections clearly - Care: both need gentle washing, and matte finishes should not be polished or waxed with gloss products
Can you mix finishes?
Yes. Some owners combine finishes, for example matte on the body with gloss on trims, or a coloured film on the roof. Talk to your installer about the look you want.
Which should you choose?
Choose gloss if you want the car to look exactly as it left the factory. Choose matte if you want a new, understated look without a paint job. To change the colour as well, read about coloured PPF.
