What Is TPU PPF? Thermoplastic Polyurethane Film Explained
What TPU PPF is, why thermoplastic polyurethane is used for paint protection film and how TPU compares with lower-cost film materials.
TPU stands for thermoplastic polyurethane. It is the material most premium paint protection films are made from, and every film in the EAGLE PPF range is TPU.
Why TPU is used for PPF
- Flexible: stretches around bumpers, mirrors and curved panels - Tough: resists everyday abrasions and minor stone chips - Clear: can be made highly transparent for gloss films - Self-healing: supports elastic topcoats that help light marks fade
TPU vs PVC film
Some lower-cost films are made from PVC. PVC is generally stiffer, harder to stretch around curves and more prone to yellowing and cracking over time. When comparing films, ask what material is used.
TPU across the EAGLE PPF range
- Standard Series: 190-micron TPU, high-gloss and clear matte - HyperShield Series: 210–220-micron TPU with HyperHeal - Spectra Series: 190-micron coloured TPU - Interior Precut: 190-micron TPU in vehicle-specific patterns
Material is only part of the story
The topcoat, adhesive and installation all affect how the film looks and lasts. See EAGLE PPF technology or compare our films.
